I Will WaitYou come to me yet again
with red eyes full of fear
and tear stained sleeves.
You stand at my open door,
waiting for unnecessary permission,
and try to hold them in but one
escapes and you fall.
Your foundation collapses
beneath your feet and I desperately
reach out before Hell claims you.
I don’t know why you always
return to me because you are
blind and cannot see the that
I want to help you.
But I will never send you away.
I let you stay until the tears are
gone and you thank me then
continue down your path.
I watch and cry for you because as
long as your path is dark, you will not
be able to see that you’ve fallen.
But I will be patient and leave
my door open in hope that one
day, you will come to me with
tears of praise instead of fear.
You Were Not An Aquarium BoySea-glass became your bones,
brine your blood, and seashells
melded into your skin.
You were not quite an ocean
when you said "This is your sign to love me."
My body was like a building;
tall, cold, almost unbreakable.
I was metallic and sharp,
towering over your waters.
I remember taking your hand in mine,
conch and coral shells scrubbing
my skyscraper wrists, and laughing
about how one day you would
submerge every last bit of me.
Your lips, riddled with argonauts,
found my cheek and I cringed
at the coarseness.
You asked if they bothered me
and I finally told you "I
think I love you."
